UTM®
UTM® is a specimen collection, transport and preservation device designed for clinical specimens containing viruses, Chlamydia, Mycoplasma and Ureaplasma.
The device uses a liquid Hanks’ Balanced Salt Solution (HBSS) transport medium to help maintain target organism viability during transport. Its unique formulation includes antibiotics and antimycotics to help prevent bacterial and fungal overgrowth without affecting the viability of viruses, Chlamydia, Mycoplasma or Ureaplasma.
UTM® preserves target organism viability for up to 48 hours at room and refrigerated temperatures and can be stored at -80°C for up to one year. Available in a range of formats, with or without a FLOQSwab®, UTM® provides flexibility for different specimen types and collection requirements. Selected tube configurations contain three glass beads to facilitate specimen release and dispersion during vortexing. UTM® supports viral culture, antigen detection and molecular testing through manual or automated workflows.
